DUAT

This was also part of the ‘Discovery’ project we were assigned at university, alongside the Break the Vicious Cycle infographic. The brief asked us to choose a contemporary concern and a quote from a book, both of which were provided. For this one, I chose criminal justice reform as the contemporary concern I wanted to address, and a quote from American Gods. To explore this theme creatively, I decided to design the cover art for a made-up video game titled ‘Duat’. This game concept draws on ancient Egyptian belief systems, particularly the journey through the afterlife, which I thought could serve as a metaphor for the struggles and redemptions found in the pursuit of justice.

Anubis was oil-painted on canvas, then scanned and lightly digitally edited. I assembled the temple and rocks from card cutouts I made, then scanned them and digitally edited the colours. The rest was made digitally in Procreate, then assembled in Photoshop.
